Nestled on 117 acres, the Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts combines cultural and natural resources to create an attraction unlike any other. It’s the country’s only national park dedicated to presenting the performing arts, and it’s right here in Virginia. Here is some of what Wolf Trap has to offer near our Loudoun County apartments:
A state-of-the-art attraction, the Filene Center first opened in 1971. The impressive building stood ten stories and held over 6,200 patrons. Unfortunately, it was destroyed by a fire in 1982. Today, the new theater looks much like the original and hosts 70 to 80 shows every year. You can watch ballets, operas, rock concerts, and other exciting performances. Entertainers take to the stage from mid-May through mid-September.
Wolf Trap Track Trail
Perfect for those looking for a leisurely hike, the Wolf Trap Track Trail meanders through the woods and over Wolf Trap Run. You’ll also explore Dimple Meadow and pass the Theatre in the Woods. To earn prizes, track your hike and complete the fun adventures.
Wolf Trap First Sunday Hikes
On the first Sunday of every month, the park offers fun guided hikes. The topics vary from walk to walk. They may include birds, wildflowers, and history. The outings last around 1.5 to 2 hours and cover 2.5 miles.
Wolf Trap is always looking for friendly volunteers. The opportunities accommodate nearly everyone’s schedule, and most are for those 18 and over. Duties may include seating patrons, passing out programs, and scanning tickets at the gates.
After spending a fun-filled day at this Virginia national park, stop by a nearby eatery for a gourmet grilled cheese sandwich and a side of fries or onion rings.
